Sri Lankan Paralympics Takes to the Field Once Again With Dialog

Sri Lanka’s most prolific promoter of sports, Dialog Axiata PLC, has once again stepped in as the official sponsor of the National Paralympics contingent and the Sri Lanka Army Para Games from 2015 to 2017.

Dialog’s agreement with the National Paralympic and Sri Lanka Army Paralympic Committees will secure the support of Sri Lanka’s premier telecom service provider for the respective contingents for all national and international competitions. The first international commitment will be the upcoming International Paralympics Championship World meet in Doha, Qatar where Sri Lanka will field seven athletes. Dialog Axiata also powered the recently concluded 18th Annual Army Para Games held at Diyagama.

Dialog Axiata is a long-standing partner of disabled games in Sri Lanka and has been actively engaged in elevating the profile of the sports in the country. Having first sponsored the national contingent to the World Paralympics back in 2000, Dialog also sponsored the teams for the 2004 and 2008 games. In addition, the Company is also associated with the Sri Lanka Army Para Games for many years and the National Sports Festival for the Disabled. Dialog Axiata, through its philosophy for inclusion, is committed to empowering and enriching the potential of the differently-able, and aspires to motivate and inspire these courageous individuals locally and internationally.

The Sri Lankan Paralympic Contingent for the Doha Games will be lead by Anil Prasanna Jayaratne, while team will comprise of Upul Indika Chuladasa, Chaminda Sampath Hettiarachchi, Dinesh Priyantha Herath, Amara Indumathi, Dumira Maduranga Alwis and Gamini Ekanayaka who will stand-in as the reserve player. The team will be coached by Rohitha Fernando and managed by Deepal Herath. In the 2012 Paralympics in London, Pradeep Sanjaya was able to secure Sri Lanka's first medal at international level when he won a Bronze Medal in the Men's 400 meters.
