Moratuwa resonates with the vibrant beats of Papare bands this March as Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider, upholding its commitment to bolster sports in the country and power the champions of tomorrow, steps forward once more to energise the 74th edition of the Battle of the Golds clash between local rivals, St. Sebastian’s College and Prince of Wales' College, Moratuwa.
The 2024 edition of the 'Battle of the Golds' is set to take place at De Soysa Stadium on March 8th & 9th , attracting a full house of spectators. The eagerly anticipated 50-over match, the 39th encounter between the two schools, is slated for the following day at the P. Sara Oval.
Achela Perera will lead the Cambrians, while Manuja Chanthuka will captain the Sebastianites. Cricketers from both schools have represented the game at the highest level, including 1996 World Cup winner Romesh Kaluvitharana and Sri Lanka captain Duleep Mendis. Current players representing Sri Lanka from St. Sebastian’s College are Oshada Fernando, Vishwa Fernando, Avishka Fernando and Praveen Jayawickrama. Kusal Mendis, the Sri Lanka ODI skipper hails from Cambrians.

The current score stands at six victories for the Cambrians and three for the Sebastianes. St. Sebastian’s College currently holds the trophy, clinching it last in 2011 under the leadership of Sanitha De Mel. In the limited-over contests, the Sebastianites lead with 19 triumphs to the Cambrians’ 15, with one draw and three abandoned matches.
