February 13th, 2023 Colombo
Continuing to uphold its longstanding commitment to promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka, Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider once again extended its support to the Gangaramaya Navam Maha Perahera for the 11th consecutive year.
Located in the heart of Colombo, the famed Gangaramaya Temple has celebrated the Navam Full Moon Poya Day, a significant day to Buddhists, by conducting the Navam Maha Perahera Pageant for 44 consecutive years since its inception in 1979. The Navam Full Moon Poya Day celebrates the appointment of Lord Buddha’s two chief disciples, and the first-ever Buddhist Council held upon his passing. The Perahera is attended by Sri Lankans from all walks of life and tourists who come to witness the streets of Colombo being bathed in vibrant lights, colourful flags, whip crackers, fire dancers, drummers and much more. A vibrant and festive celebration, the Perahera is a testament to Sri Lanka’s rich culture and history.
Dialog, a leading public listed company and one of the main advocators of Sri Lankan culture and heritage, has been a long-term patron of many cultural events, including the Kandy Esala Perahera, Baudhaloka Vesak Kalapaya, Sri Buddha Rashmi Vesak Kalapaya at Gangaramaya & Katharagama Esala Perahera.
